Cybersecurity for Industrial IoT: The GE Transportation Approach

We recently sat down with DTM 2019 speaker Adebayo Onigbango, Senior Director for Business Operations Transport Intelligence, GE Transportation to discuss the importance of and best practices for securing next gen manufacturing systems from cyber attacks. The following is an excerpt of  our conversation.


First and foremost, could you tell us a little about your impetus behind your digital transformation or manufacturing processes? What key business factors drove this evolution? 

  1. Platforms – This are required to really enable organizations and businesses to take advantage of digital transformation, it enables structures and frameworks that allow easy collection of data and powering of applications that drive real change and smarter decisions
  2. Ecosystems – A key value of digital transformation is bringing visibility and connectivity to several assets, components and devices and applying a lot of intelligence, insight and analytics on the data. To successfully do this you need engagement from other stakeholders and even some competitors.
  3. Value – At the end of the day, technology is only an enabler. It is important to understand what value you are delivering with the digital transformation – is it new revenue models, savings or increasing profits
